AKAZONAE: “Aka” means red color. “Z(s)onae” means “equipped.” Akazonaeis referred to a cavalry unit of one of the strongest feudal lords, Takeda Shingen (1521- 1573) in Japan’s Age of the Warring States. It was famous for valorous warriors all clad in red color armors and helmets, and led by a standard bearer of the red color flag. The formation of Akazonae was succeeded to the army corps of Ii Naomasa, an influential Daimyo in early Tokugawa era.
